The Various Things That Affect Babysitter Rates
April 2, 2010If you have a child, then chances are you’ll end up using a baby sitter. Any parent who can’t be home every time that their child is will end up paying babysitter rates for their child’s safety (unless they have siblings/family to watch over them). More than likely, the chosen sitter will be someone you pay normally.
If you’re hiring someone to watch over you kids, then there’s a difference between nannies and baby sitters. Pay, of course, is one big reason, as sitters are based on a “one-time” basis, an average of $15/hr. Nannies are paid consistently since they’re around/available 24/7 and it equates to around $8/hr, which is half as much. Another of many factors is that a baby sitter is just for supervision, where a nanny is supposed to act as a parent when they’re not there, or to help when they are.
What you should pay your particular sitter depends on a few things. One thing you should pay them more for is if they’re watching several children instead of one. You should also change their pay based on how long they’ve been sitting, how old they are, and where they’ll be sitting. Location matters mostly because of the cost of living, not so much because of responsibility.
